CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATE STUDY IN APPLIED STATISTICS
College of Arts and Sciences
The Department of Statistics in the College of Arts and Sciences offers the Certificate of Graduate Study in Applied Statistics using satellite delivery to USC campuses and other sites statewide. The program is designed to provide engineers and scientists with the modern data analytic tools needed for effective practice as a specialist in statistical methods. It also aids educators who are interested in enhancing their content knowledge. The program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals.
Admissions Requirements
For admission to The Graduate School, a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency is normally required. Applicants should submit a complete application packet including official transcripts of college academic work, letters of recommendation, and official score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).  The Graduate Bulletin and Admission Application are available on-line.

In addition to the above, the applicant should have three semesters of calculus.  Applicants who are admitted without the calculus courses will be required to complete them before beginning the Certificate program.

Degree Requirements

The Certificate of Graduate Study in Applied Statistics requires at least 18 semester hours of graduate credits in statistics, at least half of which must be courses at the 700 level or above. All courses must be completed within a period of six years before the award of the certificate.

Core Courses (9 credit hours)

STAT 704 Data Analysis I
STAT 705 Data Analysis II
STAT 706 Design of Experiments OR STAT 506 Introduction to Experimental Design

Nine additional hours of courses must be selected with the approval of the Office of Graduate Studies. Up to six hours of course work may be taken from other departments and/or by transfer credit with approval.

At least two classes per semester are televised live via satellite with real-time telephone interaction and via video streaming. Courses are viewable at USC campuses and at selected South Carolina technical colleges based on space availability.
