MASTER OF MASS COMMUNICATIONS
College of Mass Communications and Information Studies
The School of Journalism and Mass Communications offers courses that use live, televised instruction and videotaped instruction that benefit those who wish to become professionals in some aspect on mass communications.  These courses are open to both degree and non-degree seeking students.
Admissions Requirements
For admission to The Graduate School, a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency is normally required. Applicants should submit a complete application packet including official transcripts of college academic work, letters of recommendation, and official score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  The Graduate Bulletin and Admission Application are available on-line.

In addition to the above, applicants may be required to submit an additional writing sample demonstrating evidence of creative work.

Degree Requirements

MM.C students are required to complete 36 hours of coursework.  This includes a professional practicum experience with a newspaper, magazine, television, or radio station, advertising or public relations department or agency or some other approved mass media-related organization.  A thesis is not required for this degree program.

Courses are delivered through a variety of media.
1.   Core
     
    JOUR 701  Research Methods in Mass Communications
    JOUR 705  Integrated Communication Principles
    JOUR 706  Media Law
    JOUR 762  Issues in Mass Communication Management
    JOUR 771  Media Economics
    JOUR 777  Practicum in Mass Communication Management
     
    Students will be expected to work with organizations or agencies in their chosen area of interest within mass communication to fulfill their professional capstone practicum experience.
     
2.   Three graduate courses (nine credits) of directed electives:
     
    MKTG 701  Marketing Management
    MGMT 718  Management of Human Resources
    MGMT 770  Organization Behavior OR
    JOUR 710  Organizational Communication
       
3.   Three graduate courses (nine credits) of elective credits as approved by the student's Academic Advisor and the Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research.
       
4.   M.M.C. comprehensive examination consisting of:
       
    l a five-hour written examination based on the M.M.C. core
    l a second-day written examination based on the elective hours and practicum-             related experience an oral defense of a the second-day written examination.
